Specialised Media Training

Learning to engage with the media to your benefit.

With more than 25 years in the media as an editor, manager and journalist, as the Sunday Times Bureau Chief (editorial office manager) in London, Durban, and Cape Town, and five years as a night editor, specialist writer, for the Cape Times, and 10 years as a columnist for the same paper, Evelyn John Holtzhausen has an in-depth, hands-on understanding of how the media works.

Evelyn  was founder and CEO of HWB Communications, one of South Africa’s most respected public relations agencies, specialising in media relations and reputational risk.

Evelyn’s  media training course, accredited by the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, was developed to train the management of South Africa’s most successful job creation programme, Working on Fire (WoF). The Kishugu Group implements the WoF programme behalf of the South African Government.

Top programme executives as well as wild fire fighter team leaders have benefited from HWB’s communications and media training. As a result the programme has received an exceptional level of praise in the media and benefited from a consistently positive press.

SANParks, the Kishugu Group, the Cape Town International Convention Centre, and other high profile clients have also commended  Evelyn’s  media training course. Evelyn has also lectured to University of Stellenbosch Journalism students and the cadet journalists of the Independent Group.

Evelyn honed his skill as a communicator mediating between the press and his clients following the murder of Mrs Marike de Klerk when the security company G4S was a client; the grounding of a container ship in Table Bay Harbour; the fall of Auction Alliance and its founder and CEO Rael Levitt; and protecting the good reputation of Kishugu Aviation after helicopter crashes in which two pilots and a passenger were killed while on wild fire fighting duty in the Western Cape.
